This January recruitment period proves to be a period of feverish rumour and possible big-money deals. Several high-profile stars are being linked with moves away from their present teams. Here is a look at a selection of the top names who might be on the move in January.

Antoine Semenyo

Despite the Black Stars' inability to reach the AFCON, which has kept the player available, it appears an important transfer is imminent. This 25-year-old possesses a deal featuring a sizeable buy-out clause active for a two-week window at the start of the month. Latest reports indicate the Premier League champions have emerged as his services. Former interested parties such as Chelsea and Tottenham are said to have turned their attention to alternative targets, potentially opening the door for teams such as Liverpool or Manchester United to make a late move.

M. Guéhi

The English centre-back has excel for Crystal Palace despite a summer transfer to Liverpool collapsing. With his contract due to expire in the summer, this represents the club's final chance to obtain a fee for their captain. Numerous top clubs, such as Manchester City and several European giants including Barcelona, Real Madrid, and Bayern Munich, reportedly hold an interest. However, a January exit remains difficult, especially given the manager's dependence on the player.

Brennan Johnson

This Welsh forward has found starting minutes hard to come by at Tottenham this term. Although finishing as the club's leading goalscorer the previous campaign, he has begun just a small number of Premier League matches. Reports suggest the London outfit would be open to a transfer for the right price, believed to be in the region of forty million pounds. The Cherries appear to be at the front of the queue, with Crystal Palace, Aston Villa, and Brentford also credited with an interest.

Spurs rate the Welsh international at approximately £40m.

Rúben Neves

The Portugal playmaker could be set for a comeback to the Premier League following a period in the Saudi Pro League. Now just 28, and with his contract expiring in the summer of 2026, he represents a potential opportunity. Teams like Liverpool and Manchester United have been linked with the player. Furthermore, there have been rumours from Spanish media that he is willing to accept a reduced salary for a switch to Real Madrid.

Marc-André ter Stegen

This veteran German shot-stopper finds himself as the third option at Barça following the manager Hansi Flick. Having fallen out of favour and had an operation, a winter exit seems increasingly likely. Villa were initially mentioned as a potential destination, but that option currently seems off. Instead, clubs from Turkey and Saudi Arabia are reportedly expressing curiosity in the keeper.

I. Toney

The prolific England centre-forward has kept finding the net frequently in the Middle East. A return to the Premier League could boost his dwindling chances of being in the national World Cup. But, arranging a transfer presents significant challenges. Al-Ahli are reluctant to part with him, and his reported huge weekly wages render any move difficult. Tottenham, Manchester United, and Everton have all been linked as interested parties.

H. Elliott

Despite excelling and being named player of the tournament at the Under-21 European Championship in the summer, this talented midfielder has found it tough for minutes on loan at Villa. The manager has confirmed the loan move won't become permanent. Because of FIFA regulations about playing for multiple teams in a campaign, a move back to his parent club before next summer appears to be the sole available outcome.

Kenan Yildiz

This highly-rated Turkish attacker has been in excellent form for the Italian giants this term. As his existing deal running down, a host of Premier League clubs – such as Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, and Tottenham – are monitoring the situation. The Turin club are eager to secure the 20-year-old to a new long-term agreement but are in a race to keep one of Europe's most promising prospects.

Kees Smit

The much-admired Dutch midfielder has drawn parallels to a Belgian superstar for his style of play. Following impressing at the U19 Euros, he has become a regular in the AZ Alkmaar first team. The teenager is widely tipped to complete a major move in January. Newcastle are believed to be frontrunners, but are facing stiff rivalry from the Spanish champions for a signing priced at approximately twenty-two million pounds.
