A funding package that would end the record-setting government shutdown in US history is advancing toward the House of Representatives for a critical decision on Wednesday.

On the 43rd day of the legislative standoff, congressional members are coming back to Washington to decide whether to approve a legislative agreement that would fund government departments for 60 days.

Majority party officials voiced optimism the budget proposal would pass through the House of Representatives, despite their slim advantage. But leading opposition members pledged to fight it.

"We're opening up our United States," he declared on yesterday at a Veterans Day event in the Virginia suburb. "Shouldn't have been halted."

Effects of the Closure

The shutdown, which started on 1 October, has resulted in a million federal workers without pay, suspended food stamps for those in financial need, and disrupted aviation for travelers ahead of the Thanksgiving holiday.

The procedural committee moved the legislation forward in a procedural party-line vote by a margin of four in the late night session of the crucial date, capping a seven-hour session.

GOP committee members rejected minority changes aiming to continue expiring health insurance subsidies - their key condition during the standoff.

The chamber is scheduled to reassemble at the afternoon session (evening universal time) to hold one hour of debate on the bill before a ballot.

Minority Position

Opposition chief the minority leader of New York promised to challenge the bill.

"We completely reject as House Democrats to this careless majority action to keep elevating the high cost of living on working families," he stated to CNN.

Jeffries has shown irritation with Democratic senators who supported Republicans on Monday night to approve the budget proposal.

Major Points

A primary requirement of minority members during the shutdown has been that the majority include in the spending bill a provision to prolong government subsidies that make medical coverage less expensive for millions of citizens.

But GOP members stayed united and would not move, accepting solely allow a vote in December on the medical assistance, an option they presented earlier.

And there is doubt that legislation will be approved by the upper chamber, while House Speaker Mike Johnson has not yet promised a ballot for the tax credits in the House.

Legislative Mathematics

The House leader has avoided convening the chamber for nearly two months to pile pressure on the upper chamber minority to settle the impasse.

And when the closure concludes, funding legislators have just two months to prevent the subsequent closure.

Federal appropriations would subsequently be set to lapse on the end of next month.
