Chiefs State They Are Aware of Domestic Violence Claims Involving Wide Receiver Rashee Rice
The Kansas City Chiefs released a comment on Wednesday evening indicating they have knowledge of claims of abuse made public in social media posts by a former girlfriend of wide receiver Rashee Rice and had been in communication with the league office.
The team omitted the name of the player specifically in their announcement and stated they would have “nothing more to add at this time”.
Allegations Posted on Social Media
The woman, who likewise did not name the athlete directly, posted a series of photos on social media that appeared to show signs of physical abuse. She did say the person involved was the parent of her kids, and it is known she has two children with the football player, whom the Chiefs drafted in the 2023 draft.
Police Reports Currently Not on File
No police reports were available in the Kansas City suburb where the incident is said to have occurred.
Rice's Prior Legal Issues
Rice missed the initial part of this season following an NFL suspension for his involvement in causing a crash on a Texas roadway that resulted in multiple people hurt. Rice was sentenced a month of incarceration and probationary supervision after entering a guilty plea to serious offenses.
Statistically, he finished the season with 53 receptions for 571 yards and five TDs as the Chiefs went 6-11 and failed to qualify for the postseason for the first time in a decade.
