Adult Swim's Premier Fresh Series of 2025 Gets a Major Renewal for an Additional Two Seasons.

Last October, Adult Swim welcomed back its quirky hit, Smiling Friends. However, not long after, the network introduced a brand-new animated series with a distinctly unique vibe. Haha, You Clowns proved to be heartwarming and calm, evoking a animated take of a laid-back talk show. In an era often defined by dark humor, this show's sincerity struck a chord and helped it become a surprise hit.

A Two-Season Greenlight

On December 18th, the network made a major announcement: Haha, You Clowns has been picked up for a further two seasons. This offers creator Joe Cappa ample opportunity to further explore the story of the Campbell family. The series focuses on three respectful teenage brothers whose primary trait is their deep love for their widowed father, with Cappa providing the voices for all four central characters.

"My deepest thanks go to the fans of the show who took a chance on the show and spread the word," stated Cappa. "It's thrilling that I get to spend more time in the Campbell household for the foreseeable future."

A President's Endorsement

In the same announcement commendation from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "radically heartfelt and oddly captivating." He specifically highlighted the fans who discovered the show and championed its distinctly quirky appeal.

"All of you supported this new show, championed for it on social media, and expanded its audience week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," noted Ouweleen. "As the show says: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Comforting Counterpoint

Earlier this fall, Haha, You Clowns was praised as "a wholesome alternative" to more cynical adult animated fare. Viewers found something surprisingly comfy about observing this charming family navigate their daily lives.

In earlier interviews, creator Joe Cappa stated his desire to move the comedy genre beyond its long-running sarcastic tone. He attributed this trend to the rise of certain blockbuster franchises.

“It feels like there's a default mode of irony that we are trapped in,” said Cappa. “The attitude is that we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for 10 years, and we must laugh at something different now. It's time for comedy to grow.”

Future Seasons

Now, with Haha, You Clowns guaranteed to return, Cappa may well catalyze that comedic shift. At a minimum, the renewal promises audiences a little more time to bask in the warm glow of the endearing Campbell clan.

The season 1 finale of Haha, You Clowns airs on December 21st. The complete first season is ready to watch on HBO Max.
